Use this checklist to kick things off, then move forward with confidence knowing what to tackle first, what can wait, and how to best help your client.

  • What are the primary goals of the website?
  • Is the website targeting local customers or operating in specific geographic regions?
  • Are there any upcoming business goals or marketing campaigns that may impact the website?
  • Are the website’s key pages (home page, product/service pages, etc.) identified and prioritised?

Website History
and Current Status

  • When was the website launched?
  • What platform or CMS is the website built on? (WordPress, Shopify, custom-built, etc.)
  • Has the website undergone any major redesigns or updates?
  • Has the website undergone any migration (e.g., domain change, CMS change, server move)?
  • Have the website received any penalties or warnings from Google Search Console (manual penalties, algorithmic changes)?
  • Are there any known technical issues with the website that need immediate attention? (E.g., slow loading times, broken links, error messages)
  • Are there any known issues with the website’s domain or hosting provider?
  • Are there any historical issues or recurring patterns (e.g., crawl errors, ranking drops) that need to be addressed?

  • Has the website been connected to Google Search Console?
  • Has the website been connected to Google Analytics?
  • Is there any ongoing paid advertising (PPC, Google Ads, Facebook Ads, etc.) running for the website?

  • How often is the website updated? (Frequency of content additions, new product listings, blog posts, etc.)
  • Are there any major content changes planned soon (e.g., new product launches, seasonal updates)?
  • Are there any site-wide changes (e.g., design updates, content reorganisation) planned soon?
